About leadership coaching

I call it ‘leadership coaching’ – you might know it as ‘executive coaching’, or simply ‘life coaching’. Think of it as a means of becoming who you really want to be – for yourself, the people around you, and the work you want to do in the world.

You might be starting your career, a founder starting up a business, or an established manager or executive. We work with individuals, and organisations from start ups to FTSE100 business, and in sectors including science and tech, environment and sustainability, academia and the NHS. We can work with people anywhere time zones align.

People come to coaching with a range of concerns and desires. Here is a sample, but don’t let it constrain you if what you need isn’t listed here. Give us a shout and we can explore how we can help.

☆ Career and life planning
☆ Imposter ‘syndrome’ / self confidence
☆ Boosting self esteem
☆ Finding purpose
☆ Vision and strategy
☆ Better relationships – at work, and at home
☆ Interview preparation, performance and success
☆ Public speaking

Often, clients find themselves exploring deep questions – what do I really want from life, or my career? What is my purpose in the world, and how do I live it? How can I give back to my community and to the planet? This can be very rewarding work.

I also work with people to prepare for interviews and public speaking. Learning to tell compelling stories, and play to natural strengths.

“At the end of my last session I felt I had moved away from a smallness or more fragile way of thinking from the first session to focus more on how best to embrace the strengths and the opportunities of being me. This made me feel excited, inspired and strong.”

“The entire coaching experience was very positive, James is a clear communicator and a great motivator. Which all resulted in my successfully passing the interview and landing the job.”

Nature Based Coaching

Coaching with a difference – outdoors and in tune with the natural world!

“What I really liked about James’ style of coaching was his natural ability to connect with you, making it an easy journey where experimenting with thoughts is allowed and not always in a confined space of an office.”

About Nature Based Coaching

We can conduct our coaching conversations outdoors, in nature, either face to face or remotely. The work can include any topic that a client would normally bring to a coaching session, but with the added benefits of the calmness, connection and creativity that working away from our screens and desks provides.

There is also the opportunity to invite nature into the conversation as a ‘partner’ – you might be surprised what new insights this offers!

Benefits of nature based work include:

☆ Greater life satisfaction and self esteem
☆ Increased calmness and creative thinking
☆ Expanded horizons and an increased sense of possibility
☆ Deeper connection and oneness with the natural world
☆ Becoming inspired to make more pro-environmental decisions.

Time working with nature has been shown to reduce anxiety, and enables us to feel calmer and more positive. Working outdoors leads to 47% greater capacity for creative thinking. Nature connection has been shown to lead to 1.7x more life satisfaction and self esteem, and can double the amount of pro-environmental action people take in daily life. You can read more about why coach with nature here.

This is a specialism of The Natural Coaching Company, and we are a leader in this exciting field of practice.

“His use of nature also allowed me to connect more closely to nature in a beautiful way and get support from nature. I will be spending more time sitting in the garden paying attention to the birds and plants.”

Mental health and ADHD coaching

Improving mental health and wellbeing through coaching; and helping ADHDers thrive

“I’m learning how to become less of a harsh critic on myself and this in turn has given me greater perspective on the control I have over my thoughts and my relationships.”

About mental health coaching, and ADHD coaching

We all have mental health, but sometimes we struggle when it’s not as good as we’d like. There is a ‘space between’ therapy and traditional forms of coaching that can really help. I am a qualified mental health coach, and a certified ‘ADHD coach’.

The kinds of topics I have experience with include:

☆ Managing stress and anxiety
☆ Mental models and mindshifts
☆ Recovering from burnout
☆ Living with ADHD
☆ Enhancing mental wellbeing

I have experience of somatic practices, and mindfulness and meditation – and training in mind management skills. Many clients with mild to moderate mental health challenges, or who are struggling with some aspects of ADHD benefit from these practices, and in working with nature as part of their process.

Coaching is not suitable for people who are not coping or functioning, and would instead benefit from therapy – but I often see people who are also in therapy and able to benefit from the forward momentum and autonomy of a coaching conversation.

“Looking into the future with your help has been useful. I currently feel more connected and have a greater sense of my self worth and how I can and need continuing support.”
