Nature Based Coaching Skills is the first course of its kind to be led by a Chartered Environmentalist and Professional Certified Coach.

It will cover the major frameworks, theories and models that underpin Nature Based Coaching; develop your understanding of the imperatives and benefits behind working with Nature; and provide a rich environment for experimentation and growth.

In a nutshell

30 hours CPD with certificate of completion via a 10 week virtual live course.

Live, interactive training online. Small group discussions, plenaries and teachings. Practices and action learning.

  • Six, 2 hourly sessions of live teaching online.

  • 4 hours memory supportive testing and reflective journalling

Learning objectives

  • Understand the imperatives and benefits of being with Nature, and the key models that underpin nature based approaches.
  • Understand how to apply the ‘Five pathways to nature connectedness’ in your work
  • Develop your coaching through practical experience and reflective learning
  • Apply natural methods, including working with metaphor, seasons and systems
  • Learn personal practices to build connection with Nature
  • Ensure ethics and safety when working outdoors
  • Learn about scales you can use to measure benefit and impact.

Course structure

Module 0 – Introduction

Key learning: Refresh yourself on the overview and requirements of the course, explore definitions of terms and begin to build personal nature connection practices.

Module 1 – Orientation

Key learning: To begin to explore the landscape of Nature Based Coaching, the importance of a living and working in relationship with Nature, the models and scales that underpin Nature Based Coaching, and to map out how we work together as a group.

Module 2 – Root finding

Key learning: Understand the imperatives and benefits of being with Nature, the key models that underpin nature-based approaches, and explore how to ensure ethics and safety when working outdoors.

Module 3 – Branching out

Key learning: To strengthen sensory and emotional literacy, connect these pathways to ICF competencies, and begin expanding coaching practice through action and reflection-oriented co-coaching.

Module 4 – Growing together

Key learning: To explore the beauty and meaning pathways of nature connection, deepen cultural awareness, develop appreciative methodologies, and practise tools that help clients create insight, coherence, and significance in their work.

Module 5 – Protecting what we love

Key learning: To understand compassion as a nature connection pathway, explore its relevance to coaching and the ICF vision, practise compassionate awareness, and recognise how our coaching can contribute to healthier communities and ecosystems. This module links inner compassion to outer action: how we protect what we love.
